ENT Skills for General Surgeons

This course has been designed and will be facilitated by experienced ENT consultants for general surgeons. Emphasis will be placed on the management of ENT emergencies such as epistaxis, emergency airway obstruction and the management of a post-tonsillectomy bleed.
This presentation provides an opportunity to identify elements of patient centered consultation practices such as making good first impressions, conveying empathy, managing expectations and addressing concerns.
The training session aims to introduce participants to the concepts of positive emotions, optimism, meaning and purpose and growth mind-set in a professional and personal environment. It will introduce the concept of burnout in the medical profession and mechanisms to avoid burnout. The course will also address using a strengths-based approach to workplace flourishing.
This course has been developed as a follow-on course to the Excel – Introduction course, with a specific focus on introducing participants to more advanced functions available in the application.
This training session aims to empower the RCSI community to challenge poor behaviors which have become normalized and bring change through the reinforcement of messages defining the boundaries of unacceptable behavior.
This bone fracture fixation course will start with classification systems and decision making on the type of fixation of fractures in different scenarios. The practical sessions will range from the application of simple screws and plates to complex fixation of fractures using k-wires, tension band wiring, intramedullary nailing. We will discuss the principles of application of an external fixator. The bone models will be synthetic sawbones and animal legs with fractures for both the upper and lower limb.
This course will concentrate on knowledge in relation to correct cast application and removal for the upper and lower limb, caring for the limb in a cast and preventing associated complications. Correct selection of casts for specific fractures and ligament injuries will be demonstrated and performed.

This course for anyone who would like to explore the opportunities and challenges of using social media in healthcare, including as a mass communication tool during infectious disease epidemics.
The Paediatrics Life Support (PLS) course equips healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to recognise, treat and stabilise children facing life-threatening emergencies. Using a structured and sequential approach, participants will learn to address the unique needs of paediatric patients, including differences in weight, anatomy, physiology, and psychology.
This two-and-half day face-to-face course is delivered as a series of lectures, and interactive workshops. The final day is based on multi-disciplinary outdoor simulation scenarios based on a variety of challenging settings, facilitated by our exciting and challenging venue.
If a course is FULL – it is recommended to apply for the waiting list. Often doctors withdraw from courses closer to the date.
