RCSI Global Surgery Grand Rounds with John Kachimba "Beyond WHA68.15: Where are we on improving surgical services in Zambia?"

The poor availability of surgical services in developing countries, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa, is a long-neglected problem. It garnered international attention with the issuance of the World Health Assembly resolution 68.15 on strengthening emergency and essential surgical care and anaesthesia as a component of Universal Health Coverage.

John Kachima BSc, MBChB, MMed, FCS (ECSA Uro) is a Consultant Urologist and Senior Medical Superintendent at Livingstone Central Hospital, Zambia.  For the last decade, he been part of two EU-funded surgical systems-strengthening research projects in collaboration with RCSI and colleagues from the Netherlands, Malawi, and Tanzania.  He is also Editor in chief of the Medical Journal of Zambia.

In his Grand Rounds presentation, he will give a frontline worker's perspective on the efforts to turn rhetoric of the World Health Assembly into reality on the ground in Zambia.  All are welcome to attend this talk which starts at 2pm. Register here https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_wts0HLQRQISCV0TdLfHYTg
