Cross-Cultural Competence and Effective Communication Workshop

Jacqueline King, P.H.N., BSc (Nursing), Dip, R.G.N, is delivering a workshop on cross-cultural competence and effective communication. Having spent 30 years as a caregiver across Ireland, the Middle East and the USA, Jacqueline became aware of the need for induction and communication training for medical professionals entering Ireland to work. This workshop will focus on fostering cultural agility and exploring the Irish culture, values, attitudes and behaviours.
Learning outcomes
- Identify key aspects of Irish culture, values, attitudes and behaviours crucial for fostering cultural agility and achieving cultural competencies.
- Develop awareness of the significance of cultural insights in navigating diverse social and professional settings, promoting patient-centred care, quality of care and preventing miscommunication errors.

This service is available free of charge to Surgical NCHDs registered on our CPD Support Scheme. It is completely voluntary for you to use this, but this logbook has been specifically designed by RCSI to support those who wish to build their surgical careers. It is part of our commitment to support all who work in the provision of surgical care to patients in Ireland.
Access to the RCSI Logbook will provide an opportunity for those in non-training places to use the same electronic logbook as is being used by trainees in our core and higher surgical training programmes. Our logbook is familiar to all our consultant trainers and supervisors which gives us the opportunity to have our logbook records validated. Your data will be stored securely by RCSI, backed up, and protected against loss

The RCSI National Surgical Skills Competition recently took place on Saturday, 16 February 2025 in the National Surgical and Clinical Skills Centre, 26 York Street.
With over 40+ medical students from Surgical Societies across Ireland, it was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and excitement on the day. The level of quality shown by medical students was outstanding.
Opportunities such as the National Surgical Skills Competition are key to supporting the decision-making process of many medical students considering a career in surgery from an early stage. It’s important that RCSI continue to support medical students who aspire to becomes surgeons one day with tailored surgical experiences.
