I completed a summer elective in General Surgery at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, and was attracted to the technical skills aspect of surgery and the sense of collegiality within the surgical team.
Q5. What advice would you give an NCHD looking to get into Surgical Training?
Take some time to immerse yourself in a surgical team during an elective. Speak to trainees in surgery and find yourself a mentor to give you advice.
Q6. What habits would you recommend developing early to succeed in this career?
Enthusiasm and diligence. Become a team player.
Q7. What has been the most rewarding aspect of working in Surgery?
You get to see results in a short time frame and be part of a great team of doctors.
