We are delighted to provide surgical NCHDs with access to the RCSI Logbook.
We are delighted to provide surgical NCHDs with access to the RCSI Logbook.
This service is available free of charge to Surgical NCHDs registered on our CPD Support Scheme. It is completely voluntary for you to use this, but this logbook has been specifically designed by RCSI to support those who wish to build their surgical careers. It is part of our commitment to support all who work in the provision of surgical care to patients in Ireland.
Access to the RCSI Logbook will provide an opportunity for those in non-training places to use the same electronic logbook as is being used by trainees in our core and higher surgical training programmes. Our logbook is familiar to all our consultant trainers and supervisors which gives us the opportunity to have our logbook records validated. Your data will be stored securely by RCSI, backed up, and protected against loss

This CPD course builds on Clinical Trials – From development to opening to provide further practical knowledge for those involved in research. The course will help you to ensure your trials are conducted effectively, including how to identify and address potential risks.

This online course aims to support clinicians in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively prepare and participate in clinical handover.

Communication Skills for Video and Telephone Consultation
|
Video and telephone consultations in healthcare are not new, but the COVID-19 crisis forced many clinicians to rapidly take up these kinds of consultations as a feasible alternative to face-to-face consultations. This is often a type of consultation that staff has not encountered before. Applying the Calgary-Cambridge guide to video and telephone calls provides a structured and safe approach to this virtual format.

The course is presented as a series of recorded one-hour modules. Each module, involving a separate specialty theme, will involve case-based discussions with a variety of guest speakers. Slides covering the content are provided, and a short series of MCQs based on the content covered is completed to complete the module.

Professor Daragh Moneley, Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Beaumont Hospital, has been appointed Surgical CPD Lead at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Professor Daragh Moneley, Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Beaumont Hospital, has been appointed Surgical CPD Lead at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Professor Moneley will lead the delivery of RCSl's Professional Development Programme in Surgical Technical Skills and will assist the delivery and the initiative to improve quality of postgraduate programmes, examinations and skills assessment in Technical Skills.
"I am excited to join the CPD team in supporting and promoting Professional Development to the Surgical NCHD Cohort. I hope that my background as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon in Beaumont Hospital for the past 18 years and previous roles in Surgical Education and Accreditation of Educational programmes with the Irish Medical Council will be of value to the CPD team in enhancing what is already a very successful CPD programme. I will strive to make them better by your continued support and feedback, and fostering a collaborative environment that prioritises ongoing professional development. Applications are currently open for our flexible and online PG Diploma/MSc in Human Factors in Patient Safety for September 2025 intake. Our programme provides extensive knowledge on the area of Human Factors in Patient Safety, being taught by Human Factors faculty who are actively engaged in research, learning from inter-professional colleagues who are also undertaking the programme, and joining our alumni network.
Our part-time PG Diploma/MSc in Human Factors in Patient Safety programme is delivered 100% online, making it flexible for busy healthcare professionals. Scholars will attend online interactive sessions and workshops one day per month, the remainder of the programme includes didactic teaching, discussion boards and reading, which you can access in your own time. As our programme is delivered fully online, it attracts an inter-professional audience from around the world, coming from many different backgrounds including surgeons, nurses, pharmacists and more.

Calling all SHO’s in Ireland – Register your interest today for our established Basic Surgical Principles and Practice Certificate. The Basic Surgical Principles and Practice Certificate (BSPP) for SHO’s has been specifically designed for surgical doctors who are not currently on a formal surgical training programme.
The Basic Surgical Principles and Practice Certificate (BSPP) for SHO’s has been specifically designed for surgical doctors who are not currently on a formal surgical training programme.
The purpose of the programme is to provide educational support in a structured way based on the blueprint of the Intercollegiate Core Surgical Curriculum and the MRCS examination syllabus.
Please note, prospective candidates looking to apply for this programme will need to be registered on our 2025-26 CPD Support Scheme.
Fees: The total fee for this certificate is €2,240. €990 is covered via the NCHD CPD funding which will be claimed back directly from the HSE on behalf of the NCHD’s.
Candidates will need to pay the remaining balance of €1,250 which can be paid in three instalments. NCHDs can claim the €1,250 fee back directly from their hospitals as this certificate is approved by HSE NDTP under the Training Support Scheme (TSS).
