The RCSI National Surgical Research Support Centre (NSRSC) hosted this year’s BOASTiC Surgical Trials Training course in RCSI. Supported by the HRB-Trials Methodology Research Network (HRB-TMRN) this was the first time the BOASTiC course was hosted in Ireland giving a fantastic training and international collaboration opportunity to Irish trainees and early career surgeons.
Developed by world-renowned surgical trialists Prof David Beard and Prof Jane Blazeby the course is now in its 10th year running and has previously been hosted at Universities of Oxford, Aberdeen and Bristol.
This three day, intensive workshop is designed to give a comprehensive overview of surgical Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) where delegates learn everything from asking the right research question to trial design and delivery
Huge thanks to the faculty for travelling from the UK to deliver the course- Prof David Beard, Prof Marion Campbell, Prof Kerry Avery, Mr Justin Wormald, coordination by Katie Chegwin, local guest lecturers Ms Jessie Elliott, Prof Shirley Potter, Mr Sami Abd Elwahab, Dr Anne-Marie Byrne, Dr Fiona Boland and Mentors Prof Aoife Lowery, Ms Megan Power Foley, Ms Sandra Hembrecht.
