Principles and practicalities of healthcare systematic reviews

This course is designed for participants who want to perform and/or critically appraise systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The course predominantly covers systematic reviews of healthcare interventions, with some material being equally relevant to systematic reviews of other topics. There are two parts to this course.
This training session aims to empowers the RCSI community to challenge poor behaviours which have become normalised and bring change through the reinforcement of messages defining the boundaries of unacceptable behaviour.
This course has been developed as a follow-on course to the Excel – Introduction course, with a specific focus on introducing participants to the features of the application that are used to build, manage and analyse lists of data (records).

This course focuses on understanding the key principles of quantitative study designs including bias, confounding and causality. The course will take participants through the fundamentals of quantitative study designs and is designed to be interactive in mature with a mix of taught and practical sessions.

Global surgery is an area of study, research, practice, and advocacy aimed at achieving health equity for all people worldwide who have a need for surgical care. Participants will analyse the global context in which surgery is currently practiced, including the challenges in providing adequate surgical healthcare in developing countries and the management of humanitarian crises
This intensive half-day course is aimed at covering all aspects of an inquest including the Coroner’s investigation, the inquest hearing and media coverage. It will assist doctors who attend inquests to understand the functions, powers and duties of the Coroner and the scope of the inquest
An intensive half day training programme which examines the current law in relation to consent and capacity in Ireland and reviews recent cases before the superior courts. The Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 will also be covered with discussions around its implications for practice
This course is ideal for both new and basic user of MS PowerPoint. It is designed to bring participants through some of the good practice methods of creating and delivering effective presentations.
If a course is FULL – it is recommended applying for the waiting list. Often doctors withdrawn from courses closer to the date.
If you would like to book and attend more than your FREE 3 full-day courses allowance, you will be required to pay an enrolment fee for the additional courses. However, this fee can be reimbursed via HSE’s Training Support Scheme. Further details can be found here.
