About this event

The implementation of the seven prioritised modernised care pathways (MCPs) across Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and Urology is currently underway, and the phased rollout of the remaining 29 MCPs approved for funding this year will continue over the coming months. Funding letters have already issued for additional pathways across ENT, Rheumatology, Neurology, and Respiratory, with more to follow soon.

While some pathways will be entirely new to the system, others are already able to demonstrate significant outcomes as a result of ‘pilot’ implementations at select sites that predate the present, more-extensive MCPs rollout effort. Common among all MCPs is the drive toward improved integrated care aligned to the principles of Sláintecare – providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Now is an opportune time to come together as colleagues and stakeholders in this important patient-care initiative to share knowledge and experiences from implementation thus far in order to further strengthen our efforts toward the rollout of all 36 MCPs. With that goal in mind, my office will be hosting the Future of Integrated Care in Ireland: Modernised Care Pathways Implementation Workshop on May 23rd, 2023 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

This all-day event will provide valuable opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and professional development, and will enable a more confident, energised and cohesive implementation effort.

The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) is responsible for ensuring clinical leadership, including in medical, nursing, midwifery and health and social care professions, at the most senior level of the organisation and works closely with National Directors, other Clinical Leads and with senior leaders within Community Healthcare Organisations and Hospital Groups to improve patient and service user outcomes, safety and experience.

The Strategic Programmes Office (SPO) acts as an incubator for innovative new programmes of particular priority to the CCO and the organisation that require specialised assistance in their development, management and implementation.

The SPO brings together internal and external stakeholders, unites core competencies in the operational and clinical environments, engages directly with patients and service users, and drives major change initiatives that improve healthcare service delivery and span the HSE system-wide.
