RCSI’s highly in-demand ENT Skills for General Surgeons course is ideal for general surgeons presented with ENT cases in their emergency rooms or in outpatient clinics. There will be an emphasis in this course to the safe management of the airway orally or by an emergency cricothyroidotomy.
Emergency management of post-operative bleeding post-tonsillectomy and thyroidectomy will be demonstrated. Interactive discussions on the presentation and diagnosis of head and neck cancers will be facilitated.
Learning Outcomes:
Understanding of and ability to use the following functions:
More skills in airway management and intubation.
Increased knowledge of emergency management of ENT bleeding scenarios such as epistaxis, post-tonsillectomy and post-thyroidectomy.
Practice of an emergency cricothyroidotomy.
More knowledge of head and neck cancer referral criteria.
In this practical course we will use a combination of synthetic and animal tissue (porcine/ovine).
