Looking to enhance your career development as a Surgical NCH in Ireland? The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland are pleased to announce that EOIs for our hybrid and popular Basic/Intermediate Surgical Principles and Practice programmes are now open to register your interest. 
 
Suitable to:
BSPP - Surgical SHO's with 2 years experience or below
ISPP - Surgical SHO's with over 2 years experience and Surgical Registrars
 
Both hybrid programmes use a blended teaching approach designed to align with your busy schedule as a Surgical NCHD (Resources are available on Moodle). Technical skills training is delivered face-to-face on campus over two full days. Online sessions are live (synchronous) with faculty present. Pre-course reading and post-course exercises are required in addition to attending online classes.
 
Please note places on both programmes are limited whereby we highly advise to register your interest if interested. More information will be communicated in due course whereby applications will go live in July 2026.

Communication Skills for Video and Telephone Consultation 

Video and telephone consultations in healthcare are not new, but the COVID-19 crisis forced many clinicians to rapidly take up these kinds of consultations as a feasible alternative to face-to-face consultations. This is often a type of consultation that staff has not encountered before. Applying the Calgary-Cambridge guide to video and telephone calls provides a structured and safe approach to this virtual format.

This online course uses a case discussion format to revise the basics of ECG Interpretation for Emergency Medicine physicians. Medical Science for Surgery and Emergency Medicine 

RCSI, in collaboration with the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (https://acslm.ie/), has developed a CPD/CME programme designed to support the ongoing development of competence in this vital area of clinical practice. The programme offers a series of short online courses covering 25 key topics in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The first seven courses in the series focus on Cancer Diagnostics, Surgical Microbiology, Blood Transfusion, Coagulation, Surgical Immunology, Heart Failure Assessment in the Emergency Department, and Near Patient Testing (NPT), spanning both basic and applied pathology.

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Robotic Surgery team have been busy behind the scenes building the new Robotic Surgery Curriculum which will launch to Surgical Trainees looking to take the next step in their robotic training and career development.


A new era in robotic surgery training – A brand-new Robotic Surgery Curriculum designed for all surgical trainees who want to develop skills in robotic surgery (commencing September 2026) 🚀 

 

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Robotic Surgery team have been busy behind the scenes building the new Robotic Surgery Curriculum which will launch to Surgical Trainees looking to take the next step in their robotic training and career development. 

 

Since the Curriculum in Robotic Surgery was approved by RCSI, the team over the past few months have: 

 

• Established a brand-new dedicated robotic training space within RCSI • Appointed a dedicated Robotic Surgery Specialist to lead delivery 

• Purchased multiple robotic platforms (Medtronic Hugo, CMR Versius, and Sentire Cornerstone) • Commenced faculty training to deliver exciting high-quality programme robotic programmes

• Developed IT infrastructure to support simulation, teaching, and assessment

RCSI’s established MCh by Module programme runs full-time over one year or part time over 2 years on a hybrid model, with 80% online with 20% face to face days on campus. Each module will have at least one- or two days' face to face.


The research component pushes you to focus on your individual interests and professional development within the greater healthcare context, and as the first programme in Ireland to incorporate a taught component you'll develop a skill set that cannot be adequately developed through research alone.

Register for the VAST Facilitator Course today. Since 2017, the VAST Facilitator Course has trained educators from more than 35 countries. The course is relevant for those dedicated to global simulation capacity building and for clinicians who want to improve their skills for debriefing critical events, team working and feedback conversations with trainees.
