Basic Life Support Provider Course

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider Course is for medical, para-medical and allied healthcare professionals. The skills taught include adult and paediatric CPR including two rescuer scenarios, use of bag valve mask and barrier devices, management of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO), and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

New Online course – Medical Emergencies

This is on-line modular course has adapted from our previous CPDSS Medical Emergencies Day. The course is presented as a series of recorded one-hour modules, with access released on a rolling monthly basis.


This is on-line modular course has adapted from our previous CPDSS Medical Emergencies Day. The course is presented as a series of recorded one-hour modules, with access released on a rolling monthly basis. Each module, involving a separate specialty theme, will involve case-based discussions with a variety of guest speakers. Slides covering the content are provided, and a short series of MCQs based on the content covered are completed in order to complete the module. The themes covered within each module will be changed on an annual basis.

The Institute of Leadership (IOL) are running a series of webinars in collaboration with The National Clinical Leadership Centre for Nursing and Midwifery (NCLC) and Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director (ONMSD).

RCSI has developed an online course “Professionalism in 21st Century Medical Practice” which is aimed at medical doctors in all specialties. The course is based on the Medical Council’s “Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Medical Practitioners” and is presented in an interesting and engaging format.


RCSI has developed an online course “Professionalism in 21st Century Medical Practice” which is aimed at medical doctors in all specialties. The course is based on the Medical Council’s “Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Medical Practitioners” and is presented in an interesting and engaging format.

 

There are 12 online modules covering different aspects of Medical Professionalism and each module can attract 5 CPD credits. An online introductory video (5-7 minutes per module) is supported by a Learning Resource Area which contains carefully selected reading materials and videos related to the subject matter of the module.

 

On completion of the reading and viewing tasks, you can take a MCQ test to earn your CPD points and even print your own certificate!

 

The course is designed to be accessed on any mobile device, which means that it can be accessed anytime and anywhere. You may study the modules in any order and at your own pace. This online course on Professionalism will be available to all registered medical doctors in Ireland.

Just a reminder about our annual VTE conference which will be live on zoom next month October 7/8th which is free to register https://www.vtedublin.org/#2021-registration-now-open and approved for CPD points. While some of the program is more haem/onc orientated there are a couple of interesting EM relevant talks on the Friday including Prevention of VTE in patients with traumatic brain injury and Diagnostic strategies in suspected PE across different healthcare settings; what model to use in what patient.

 

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who are involved in recruiting patients to the TILLIRI study to contribute to answering the important question as to which patients with lower limb immobilisation should be offered thromboprophylaxis.
