PCS Verification Process -
CPD activity uploaded 1st May 2018 - 30th April 2019

Dear Dr

IMC NO

Re:   RCSI Professional Competence Scheme Verification Process - 1st May 2018 – 30th April 2019

I wish to advise you that following on from your Professional Competence Scheme Verification Process for CPD activities uploaded for 1st May 2017 – 30th April 2018 you have now been re-selected to participate in the verification process for the year 1st May 2018 – 30th April 2019 as the outcome of your last verification process was “Not compliant - requires further action”.

If you are no longer on the Irish Medical Council’s Register, or have entered the Training Division of the Medical Council Register, please notify this office by email pcs@rcsi.ie as this will allow us update our records, withdraw you from the Professional Competence Scheme and ensure that you do not receive unnecessary communication in relation to the PCS.

The verification process will take place from Monday 22nd July 2019.    Please make sure that all your credits and supporting documentation are uploaded on or before this date as after this date you will not be able to edit or update your PCS portfolio for the year 1st May 2018 – 30th April 2019.

As you will be aware, the verification process involves a check again on each of the activities that you have uploaded to your Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) profile and the CPD credits assigned to each activity for the year 1st May 2018 - 30th April 2019.  Certain activities require supporting documentation and, if this has not been uploaded, you will be requested to upload (or submit) this for each appropriate activity up to the minimum requirement – 50 CPD credits per year.

You should now

(1)  login to your PCS profile and review your credits for 1st May 2018 – 30th April 2019 term.  The annual PCS requirements are: Total of 50 CPD credits across the following categories:
  • External: 20 credits minimum per annum  (mandatory)
  • Internal:  20 credits minimum per annum (mandatory)
  • Personal Learning: 5 credits minimum per annum (mandatory)
  • Research and Teaching: 2 credits desirable (but can get recognition for up to 5)
  • And one Clinical Audit

(2)  If you still have activities which you have not yet uploaded for the term ending 30 April 2019, please upload these activities on or before Monday 22nd July 2019.    If you are unable to upload activities or are uncertain which activities can be recorded and in which category please contact us (email / pcs@rcsi.ie or Phone / 01 402 2743)

(3)  Please ensure that you have evidence of your professional activities which you have entered on your profile.  It is easier if you upload scanned or electronic copies to the portfolio.

(4)  If you cannot provide supporting documentation/ certificates of attendance, this will be noted and may impact on the total number of verified credits you have accrued for this period 2018 – 2019.

If the evidence in your portfolio shows that you have recorded sufficient activities and have the required certificates and documents, you will receive full credit for the Professional Competence Scheme.   If there are discrepancies identified, you will be contacted again so that the issues identified can be addressed.  Please note, recognition for credits that do not have appropriate verification evidence may be withdrawn in that your overall credits on your certificate will be amended.

Should you have any queries, please contact Marie O’Boyle at the PCS Office: 01-402 2743 or by email: pcs@rcsi.ie

Yours sincerely
