Re:       Notification of Upcoming RCSI Professional Competence Scheme Verification Process –

1^st May 2018 – 30^th April 2019

 

As part of the arrangements agreed with the Medical Council, it is a requirement that each Postgraduate Training body undertake an annual verification of activities recorded by 3-5% of doctors enrolled on the professional competence scheme.  

 

I wish to advise you in advance that you have been randomly selected to participate in this verification process for the Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) year 1^st May 2018– 30^th April 2019 which will commence in late July 2019.     If you are no longer on the Irish Medical Council’s Register, or have entered the Training Division of the Medical Council Register, please notify this office by email pcs@rcsi.ie as this will allow us update our records, withdraw you from the Professional Competence Scheme and ensure that you do not receive unnecessary communication in relation to the PCS.

 

The verification process will involve a check on each of the activities that you have uploaded to your Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) profile and the CPD credits assigned to each activity. 

 

What does this means for you?

(i)    Please login to your PCS profile https://pcs.rcsi.ie/and review your credits for 1^st May 2018 – 30^th April 2019 term. 

 

(ii)    On checking your profile, please note the annual PCS requirements are:

      Total of 50 CPD credits across the following categories:

• External: 20 credits minimum per annum  (mandatory)
• Internal:  20 credits minimum per annum (mandatory)
• Personal Learning: 5 credits minimum per annum (mandatory)
• Research and Teaching: 2 credits (desirable – not mandatory)

(the additional 5 CPD credits required can be recorded in any of the above categories in order to attain the iminium total of 50 CPD credits per annum.

• And one Clinical Audit.

 

If you still have activities which you have not yet uploaded for the term ending 30 April 2018, please upload these activities now.    If you are unable to upload activities or are uncertain which activities can be recorded and in which category please contact us (email / pcs@rcsi.ie or Phone / 01 402 2743)

 

Please ensure that you have evidence of your professional activities which you have entered on your profile.  It is easier if you upload scanned or electronic copies to the portfolio.

 

If you cannot provide supporting documentation/ certificates of attendance, this will be noted and may impact on the total number of verified credits you have accrued for this period 2018 – 2019.

 

The verification process will take place from 22^nd July 2019 so it will help if all your credits and supporting documentation are uploaded on or before Monday 22^nd July 2019.
