Many of you have already renewed your enrolment for the PCS Year 1st May 2026 - 30th April 2027.   For those who have not yet completed renewal,  please note that under the updated Medical Council Framework, all doctors must enrol / re-enrol on a Professional Competence Scheme within 60 days of the PCS year start date (1st May)

Doctors will also be required to confirm on the Medical Council retention form which Postgraduate Training Body they are enrolled with for PCS.

This means that you must  re-enrol by paying your PCS enrolment fee for the 2026 – 2027 PCS year before completing your Medical Council registration retention in June 2026.

If you are no longer on the Supervised, General, or Specialist section of the (Irish) Medical Council’s Register please notify this office by email pcs@rcsi.ie as this will allow us update our records and ensure that you do not receive unnecessary communication in relation to the PCS

Fellows and Members of RCSI who practice in the Republic of Ireland and pay their Fellowship/Membership subscription are entitled to a discount on their PCS.

Please note you can still upload valid credits for the PCS term 1^st May 2025 – 30^th April 2026.  You should now Sign In to your PCS portal and review your credits.    Please note that, in addition to uploading CPD credits,  completing a Professional Development Plan is now a mandatory requirement .We would ask that you update and record your activities before 30th June 2026.

RCSI will begin the Verification Process in  July 2026, during which a random selection of doctors will be selected to participate for the period   1^st May 2025 – 30^th April 2026.      Please note that, under the Arrangements with the Medical Council, the Training Bodies are required to undertake a verification of activities recorded by 3-5% of doctors enrolled on the Professional Competence Scheme. 

This process involves reviewing the activities uploaded to each doctor's PCS portfolio, along with the CPD credits assigned as well as any supporting documentation such as certificates or proof of attendance/participation. 

This is a supportive exercise and provides support to help doctors in meeting the PCS requirements.   

The Medical Council requires that records are kept for a period of six years, (current PCS year plus previous five years), to fulfil obligations under the MPA 200.   GDPR places significant obligations on organisations in relation to the processing of personal data and the data protection principles are a set of rules, which we must follow to ensure that we are processing personal data in accordance with the law.

According to these principles, RCSI Professional Competence Scheme, must only collect, use and store the personal data it requires to fulfil the legitimate business purposes that it has identified. In order to ensure that it is complying with the principle of Data Minimisation, this requires us to identify the minimum amount of personal data needed to properly fulfil the business purpose. We should collect and hold no more than this minimum amount.

Furthermore, under the principle of Storage Limitation, we are required to hold personal data no longer than necessary for the purpose by which it was obtained. Ensuring personal data is disposed of when no longer needed, helps to reduce the risk that it will become inaccurate, out of date or irrelevant.

With this in mind, RCSI PCS has contacted all registered medical practitioners who have records older than six years on their PCS portfolio – that is all records from PCS year 1^st May 2020 – 30^th April 2021 will be deleted on 24th July 2026.

We ask that if you want to retain any of your data we would encourage you to login to your portfolio and review your personal data stored by RCSI Professional Competence Scheme Portal, and download your records.   

To download your Statement of Participation, sign into the PCS Portal 

• Go to My Summary and click on VIEW.  Click on View/Download Statement – You can now save this Statement to your computer.  

If you wish to view and download the records uploaded, go to

• View Records on the home page,
• Search CPD records by year 2020.  
• Scroll to bottom of page and click Download – this will download an Excel file with records you have uploaded which you can save to your computer.

Call for abstracts – RCSI NSRSC Research Symposium

The Millin Meeting will showcase Irish surgical research and highlight research opportunities for surgeons. An exciting session with early, mid-career researchers and established clinician scientists will offer insights into how to embed research into your career path and how research can impact your clinical practice.

Authors of the highest-scoring abstracts will be invited to present their work as an oral or poster presentation at the prestigious RCSI Millin Meeting.

The RCSI National Surgical Research Medal will be awarded to the best oral presentation – first, second and third place prizes are available for best poster presentations.
