Dear colleague,

We are pleased to announce that RCSI trainees now have free access to the “Global Health” e-learning course, jointly produced by Irish postgraduate medical training bodies through the Forum of Irish Postgraduate Medical Training Bodies.

The course is available here.

It aims equipping healthcare professionals with the foundational knowledge to engage with global health challenges in their everyday work.

There are five sections in this course:

  1. Global Health Governance explains the role of international organizations in guiding global health responses and how their policies impact healthcare delivery in Ireland.
  2. Global Epidemiology of Health and Disease explores the determinants, distribution, and consequences of transnational health issues, including communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  3. Planetary Health and Sustainability examines the impact of environmental changes on human health and discusses strategies for sustainable healthcare practices.
  4. Culture, Society, and Determinants of Health discusses the social, economic, and cultural factors that affect health and healthcare provision, emphasizing the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  5. Health Systems provides an overview of how health systems function locally and globally, including workforce dynamics, financing, quality of care, and the role of technology and medicines in delivering equitable services.

Through case-based examples and practical insights, this course empowers learners to apply global health principles in their clinical settings and contribute to a more just and sustainable healthcare system.
