A key objective of the NSRSC is to facilitate integration of clinical trials networks across all hospital groups and foster interest in surgical research among the surgical community in Ireland. This will help create a research-led surgical infrastructure for the betterment of human health and improved surgical care for patients.
To this end, the NSRSC seeks to develop a clinical trials network and a portfolio of studies within the surgical community in Ireland. The Centre aims to support those involved in surgical research and trials across the island of Ireland, assisting surgical colleagues from a variety of specialities in all aspects of the set up, and conduct of surgical trials.
The NSRSC is offering a one-year clinical trials fellowship for a surgical trainee or Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor (NCHD) to assist the NSRSC in this initiative.
The fellowship will allow the successful candidate to gain valuable experience in the day-to-day set up and management of clinical trials, understanding of various trial designs and methodologies, ethics and regulatory approvals and data analysis platforms. The fellowship year can be part of studies pursuant towards a higher degree (MD or MSc/MCh) subject to the requirements of the higher degree studies being undertaken. In addition the NSRSC will provide tuition fees for the successful candidate to complete the MSc in Clinical Research hosted by NUI Galway, either full time (1 year) or part-time (two years).
