RCSI, NCHD CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

RCSI has developed a Continuous professional development programme that cover a broad range of courses that are free-of-charge to Non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) working in the HSE. 

Enrolment to this programme opens in July of each year.  Our programme in 2026-27 will offer over 120+ courses and will be available on our website in late July. You can book a place on one of the current courses of find additional information from our website.

 

POSTGRADUATE ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES – September 2026 intake

RCSI are committed to supporting the career of medical and surgical professionals at every stage of your career. We are pleased to announce that we now have a suite of postgraduate academic programmes in surgery and medicine to meet the needs of all healthcare professionals.

We are committed to delivering excellence in healthcare education by providing a range of Masters and Diploma Programmes dedicated to supporting the career development of Doctors in a wide range of specialties. 

 

Online PG Diploma/MSc. in Human Factors in Patient Safety – Part time (1/2 years)

Suitable to:

The programme is suitable for emergency medicine doctors, surgeons, physicians, anaesthesiologists, obstetricians, pharmacists, nurses and midwives working in the hospital setting, as well as safety and quality managers.

  • Personal Effectiveness and Non-technical Skills
  • Leadership of Process and Quality Improvement
  • Professionalism and Advanced Communications
  • Research Methods

Please note prospective applicants looking to apply for one of our academic programmes can apply for funding through the RCSI CPD Support Scheme and TSS schemes (up to €2,750 for a 1-year programme or €5,500 for two-year part time programmes)

RCSI is committed to developing better support for non-consultant doctors whether they are enrolled on a surgical specialist training programme or not. Our goal here is to help enhance NCHD’s clinical skills and knowledge, while also supporting their career development and professional needs. An example of our commitment here was the recently published report on a Career Development and Supports programme for NCHD’s link .

We are continually evaluating how we can do better in this area and we would really value your input.

EMNow is a free access app – built by the RCSI specifically for emergency medicine NCHD’s – that supports training and serves as an information point for all elements of Emergency In Ireland.
