This bone fracture fixation course concentrates on the management of fractures that need more than a cast for stability. The practical sessions will range from the application of simple screws and plates to the complex fixation of fractures using k-wires, tension band wiring, and intramedullary nailing.

|
The course introduces participants to the key concepts involved in delivering high quality emergency care for the older adult and is based on the concepts outlined in the British Geriatric Society’s ‘Silver Book II’.

Global surgery is an area of study, research, practice, and advocacy aimed at achieving health equity for all people worldwide who have a need for surgical care. Participants will analyse the global context in which surgery is currently practiced, including the challenges in providing adequate surgical healthcare in developing countries and the management of humanitarian crises.

|
|
|
This new course aims to concentrate on the management of perianal conditions such as pilonidal sinus, fistula-in-ano, perianal abscess, and hemorrhoids. Practice sessions will be enabled using animal bench models where you will practice procedures such as the application of a Seaton, abscess drainage, wide excision of a pilonidal sinus, and hemorrhoid banding.

Quantitative Study Design- Tullamore
|
|
This course is designed to upskill healthcare workers on how to design and conclude a quantitative study for research purposes. It focuses on understanding the key principles of quantitative study designs including bias, confounding, and causality.
|
|
|
|

Intermediate Endoscopy Polypectomy Workshop
|
|
This endoscopy course will concentrate on more complex gastrointestinal presentations of lower GI patients, particularly lesion diagnosis and advanced excision methods. With the help of virtual reality simulation and bench models, colonoscopies and associated minor endoscopic procedures to remove polyps will be practiced.

|
Casting for the Upper and Lower Limb
|
|
This course will concentrate on knowledge in relation to correct cast application and removal for the upper and lower limb, caring for the limb in a cast, and preventing associated complications. Correct selection of casts for specific fractures and ligament injuries will be demonstrated and performed.
|

|
|
|
Emergency Abdominal Surgery Course
|
|
EASC curriculum focuses on the acute abdomen, in a multidisciplinary shared learning approach. It will enhance your ability on duty as a surgeon, gastroenterologist, or radiologist; either as a trainee or a specialist.
|
|
|
If a course is FULL – it is recommended applying for the waiting list. Often doctors withdrawn from courses closer to the date.
If you would like to book and attend more than your FREE 3 full-day courses allowance, you will be required to pay an enrolment fee for the additional courses. However, this fee can be reimbursed via HSE’s Training Support Scheme. Further details can be found here.

This new on-line course uses case discussion format to revise the basics of ECG Interpretation for Emergency Medicine physicians. This on-line platform allows for candidates to access the recorded content on demand, with the facility to repeat more challenging modules as desired. Candidates are required to complete a quiz at the beginning and end of the course.

Every year, RCSI celebrates a meeting to commemorate the Charter of 1784 and in doing so extends a warm welcome to Fellows, Members, Alumni, Faculty, Students, Staff and the broader healthcare community in Ireland and overseas.

We offer a comprehensive suite of flexible NUI-accredited Masters programmes including our inter-professional Online PG Diploma/MSc in Human Factors in Patient Safety, full-time and part-time Master of Surgery (MCh) by module and part-time MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
NCHDs working in the HSE full-time may be able to combine Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme (CPD-SS) funding and Training Supports Scheme (TSS) funding to cover up to €2250 of the cost of this programme.

The RCSI National Surgical Research Support Centre (NSRSC) has been established to support surgical trial activity and develop a portfolio of multicentre surgical trials, to offer patients in Ireland the opportunity to partake in high quality surgical trials.
The RCSI National Surgical Research Support Centre (NSRSC) has been established to support surgical trial activity and develop a portfolio of multicentre surgical trials, to offer patients in Ireland the opportunity to partake in high quality surgical trials.
To achieve this objective we launched a feasibility trial call and awarded eight Feasibility Trial awards to support Irish surgeons conducting Investigator-led Randomised Controlled Trials across a range of areas including diabetes, appendicitis, bariatric surgery, wound healing devices, varicose vein surgery and chronic subdural haematoma. We will be providing funding and operational support to help get these trials open in Ireland.
To build on this initiative we are launching the RCSI-NSRSC International Collaborative Surgical Trial call to support the participation of Irish sites in an existing International surgical trials.
Applications are encouraged from all surgical disciplines. For more details about the call please see the RCSI-NSRSC International collaborative trial call document and the RCSI-NSRSC Application form. This is a rolling call and we encourage potential applicants to contact us in the RCSI-NSRSC in the first instance to discuss your proposal. This online course aims to support clinicians to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively prepare and participate in clinical handover. The course demonstrates how good communication skills can achieve continuity and safety of patient care during handover. The application of ISBAR3 is examined in a variety of clinical settings using video analysis of everyday handover situations.

The course is recognized for 3 CPD points.
Many healthcare staff are now carrying out consultations using video calls. This is often a type of consultation that staff have not encountered prior to COVID-19 and can be an area of anxiety. Building on the previous course on telephone consultations, this course shows you how to apply the core skills of the Calgory-Cambridge Guide to video consultations provides a structured and patient-centered approach.
