The Irish Surgical Research Collaborative (ISRC) supported by the Irish Forum for Surgical Research (IFSR) invite submissions to the ISRC Dragon’s Den, which will take place online at the Sir Peter Freyer Surgical Symposium in September 2021.
Applications from all surgical and perioperative disciplines are welcomed, with pan-speciality clinical trials, with broad applicability across surgical disciplines, of particular interest. Applications for clinical trials focusing on aspects of perioperative care (e.g. anaesthesia, analgesia, wound management, nutrition and care of older adults) are encouraged. Trials benefiting from multicenter collaboration are considered most suitable.
A brief summary of the proposed clinical trial should be submitted using the attached template to ISRC@rcsi.com before 6th June 2021 to be considered for shortlisting.
Following review of initial submissions, a number of proposals will be shortlisted. Shortlisted proposals will receive methodological support from the ISRC, IFSR and RCSI for protocol development. Full protocols for shortlisted projects will be sent for peer-review in July 2021 before presentation at the Dragon’s Den Session of the Freyer meeting.
The winning proposal will be developed and disseminated through the ISRC and IFSR across an Island of Ireland surgical clinical trials network, and will receive comprehensive logistical, methodological, IT and statistical support from the RCSI.
Through the delivery of the first Irish large scale, pan-specialty, clinical trial in surgery, the ISRC and IFSR hope to:
- Establish a functioning clinical trials network across the Island of Ireland
- Develop the infrastructure and IT support necessary for the conduct of high quality clinical trials on the Island of Ireland
- Utilise the new enhanced National Research Ethics Committee process for Randomised Controlled Trials in Ireland
- Enhance the methodological support available to investigators wishing to initiate a surgical clinical trial in Ireland
